Unleashing The True Potential of AI

Mosaic Data Science

Recent advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) have placed organizations on the brink of a new era of automation, but its full potential is yet to be realized. The global AI software market is expected to grow rapidly in the coming years, reaching around $126 billion dollars by 2025.

For years, the hype surrounding AI has far outweighed its actual transformative impact, with vendors often overpromising and under-delivering on what AI could really accomplish. But the recognition that AI is not a one-size-fits-all solution is now driving a change in perception.

Mosaic Data Science is a boutique consultancy and services firm helping organizations take a more nuanced approach to AI adoption by moving beyond the hype.

It is focused on helping enterprises embark on large-scale digital transformation initiatives that combine AI/ML with customized scoping and targeted problem-solving to help organizations unify their efforts and achieve their digital transformational goals.

Scalable Solutions that Deliver Game-Changing Results

For many organizations, the road to digital transformation can seem overwhelming, with buzzwords like supply chain optimization, natural language processing, and scheduling optimization. For Mosaic, however, ML, AI, data science, and predictive analytics are more than buzzwords. Breaking down large initiatives into bite-sized chunks simplifies the enormous task of building and deploying actionable analytics solutions. This guided approach allows organizations to fully realize the potential of every ML/AI approach through every stage of their digitalization journey.

A typical engagement begins with an extensive interview and exploratory data analysis to bring out nuances and statistical measures in the data that influence what algorithms to test. This is followed by rapid prototyping of various algorithms-to reach the desired results using different evaluation criteria, shrinking prediction time to weeks or months, not years. Based on the results, a custom model is built that is unique to the client’s data, processes, and environment, helps achieve a clear-cut ROI, and drives its competitive edge. The ML/AI model is then deployed and monitored with inference, feedback, and baseline data, going back to phase one and building with usability in mind. Mosaic’s AI Labs specialize in computer vision, natural language processing, scheduling optimization, and supply chain optimization. Each lab was created to help organizations design and deploy the most advanced custom AI solutions at scale.
Beyond AI and ML model development, Mosaic’s team of experts establishes processes for effective monitoring and optimization so these models can be maintained in the best condition. Once continuous monitoring processes are planned and implemented, issues like data drift, inefficiencies, and bias can be detected and rectified. Mosaic Data Science removes the friction from AI/ML development and deployment while enabling fast iterations, limitless scaling, and customizable infrastructure.

Hands-On Support from the Industry’s Top Data Scientists

As the appetite for ML and AL grows, there is a continuing need for data scientists. According to the recent KPMG CIO Survey, nearly half (46 percent) of CIOs said they suffered from an analytics skills shortage, followed by a shortage in AI skills at 38 percent.

The speed of technology, coupled with the rapid deployment of AI tools across every sector, has created a situation where the demand for skilled professionals far outstrips the supply. As more organizations integrate AI/ ML into their decision-making processes, they need data scientists with skills around particular tool-technique-use cases.

In response to this market need, Mosaic seeks to help clients fight this talent shortage by providing quick, flexible access to its world-class team of data scientists.

It has launched its popular staff augmentation service, Rent a Data Scientist Program™ (RaDS), to identify client needs and match them with the best data scientist to effectively and efficiently develop solutions. Companies can hire a data scientist with the optimal skillsets on a part- or full-time basis at a competitive hourly rate for as long as the project requires.

Mosaic’s data scientists work with clients to uncover meaningful opportunities to embed AI and ML into their workflows and processes. Their deep industry experience applying ML tools to critical business decisions enables them to support and facilitate any effort to use data to drive improved operational and strategic decision-making.

Mosaic’s Services in Action

The wealth of experience, knowledge, and problem-solving capabilities of Mosaic’s team are the bedrock of its sustained success, and remain the driving force behind the company’s ongoing growth.

Many Of Our Clients Take Solace In The Fact That They Have A Trusted Partner In Mosaic That Keeps Them Ahead Of The Curve

“Many of our clients take solace in the fact that they have a trusted partner in Mosaic that keeps them ahead of the curve,” says Chris Provan, chief data scientist, Mosaic.

In one instance, Mosaic worked with a veterinary technology solutions provider to develop an encompassing pet wellness score and early disease-identification models. It used a smart collar data analytics device that collects pet behavioral information and reports health insights to the owner’s app using IoT and sensor data techniques.

Mosaic’s RaDS program offered quick, hands-on access to a diverse team of data scientists who used ML models to extract relevant signals from the accelerometer data and provide deeper insights into pet behavior and health. The ultimate goal of this data was to develop an in-depth pet wellness score based on various tracked behaviors. This helped owners monitor their pet’s overall wellbeing on a day-to-day basis, with modelbased alerts to raise their awareness of changes in their pet’s behavior that might indicate chronic or acute health problems.

This project is a prime example of how Mosaic used IoT and sensor data to improve pet health through consistent monitoring, and powerful algorithms that convert these massive data sets into actionable insights. The idea can be extended beyond pet health, showcasing the possibilities intelligent devices can bring for humans and other machines.

“Our portfolio of solutions come from repeat patterns in successful project execution. We don’t start by gathering ingredients and brainstorming what we can make with them; we write a cookbook after we’ve cooked many great cakes. We do this by using insights from past projects, your current environment, and use case requirements to facilitate ease of use and increase time to insight,” says Mike Shumpert, managing director, Mosaic.

With Mosaic, it is not about bracing for a tidal wave of digital transformation; it’s learning how to surf. It is constantly bringing innovations that enable organizations to better understand the language of business, automate processes and IT, and drive trust in their AI outcomes. In addition, its data scientists deliver deep technology, industry, and process design expertise to co-create solutions with clients that embed AI into core business processes and create intelligent workflows at scale.

According to a study by Oberlo, AI use is responsible for optimizing high-level business productivity by up to 54 percent. As technology continues to transform businesses, the time is now to prioritize an AI-led strategy that enables innovation, human creativity, and business growth. Deploying Mosaic, business leaders can leverage the power of purpose-built AI and ML solutions to transform their organizations, enable better decisionmaking, and help organizations find answers to questions they didn’t even know they should be asking.

Mosaic Data Science Provides Cutting-Edge Support for National Law Firm's Expansion of National Algorithmic Bias Auditing and Risk Management Services

Thursday, August 03, 2023

LEESBURG, Va.- Mosaic Data Science has joined EBG Advisors, the affiliate consultancy of national law firm Epstein Becker Green, to support the advisory network's nationwide algorithmic bias auditing and risk management services through Mosaic's award-winning artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities.

Developed in alignment with the AI Risk Management Framework developed by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), EBG Advisors' algorithmic bias auditing and risk management initiative unites data and social scientists to identify and advise on processes that can help reduce bias in AI without being cumbersome or blocking progress.

Mosaic is tasked with critically evaluating the AI lifecycle for potential risk and abuse, helping clients of Epstein Becker Green and EBG Advisors understand how AI-based technology can be applied to their businesses while also identifying possible harmful outcomes.

"Integrated quality assurance and model monitoring provide peace of mind, and empirical evidence that deployed models or algorithms continue to be in alignment with relevant regulations and organizational values while still empowering data scientists to innovate and increase the value that models provide," said Michael Shumpert, Managing Director of Mosaic Data Science.

To successfully audit for algorithmic bias within AI models, Mosaic analyzes model or algorithm inputs and outputs under various scenarios, as well as potential data sets, the code used to train the models, and the trained model code. Mosaic's data scientists do this in the context of existing or proposed regulations or legislation that dictate relevant ethical standards for an algorithm and use case, such as non-discrimination based on race or gender.

Next, Mosaic develops analyses and experiments to ensure compliance with the identified standards. If the statistical evidence suggests that an algorithm does not comply with the standards, Mosaic will help identify algorithm adjustments to ensure compliance. Every model that is moved to production is evaluated, preventing problematic models from being released. Post-deployment model monitoring is also conducted to ensure that issues with models or changes in the data fed into them are identified and handled appropriately without potentially costly delays.

"Federal and state regulators are actively using existing statutes and regulations to threaten industry with enforcement if models cause harm, especially in such areas as consumer products and services, employment, and healthcare," said Bradley Merrill Thompson, Member of the Firm at Epstein Becker Green and Chief Data Scientist at EBG Advisors. "Further, as new regulatory compliance standards for AI continue to emerge, those companies that have invested in their algorithmic quality assurance will be the most prepared to verify the quality of their algorithms and models and mitigate regulatory risks."
